TOM's STORY

Keeping Tom's Spirit Alive

Tom Marmet was shot and killed on October 24, 2018, as he was driving home from work. Tom was serving the DC community as a social worker at So Others Might Eat and living with his fellow Volunteer Corps members at the Gandhi House. Tom epitomized peace and kindness. Like so many other innocent victims, his life was cut short by an epidemic of gun violence that plagues many neighborhoods in DC. In Tom's honor, and to honor all those lost to gun violence, we are working to build a coalition in Washington DC that can help our elected officials eliminate gun violence and creating a more peaceful future.

We encourage you to join us in this fight. If you're in DC, we can use your help connecting with other activists, nonprofits, think tanks, faith leaders and elected officials. If you're in other parts of the country or spread across the globe, we can point you to some amazing organizations that are engaged in curbing the daily gun violence in our cities, which is fueled by the easy access to illegal guns. Tom was determined to end social injustice, address inequalities faced by so many in the city where he was born. Our goal of eliminating the gun violence that inflicts trauma on so many families will help deliver on his vision, and keep his spirit alive.
